Bay Gallery Home collaborates with Sample Library at Decorex International 2021

Bay Gallery Home is excited to announce we will be presenting our ‘My Country’ Aboriginal interiors collection in collaboration with Sample Library at Decorex International 10-13 October 2021.

Over the course of the show our samples will be available to view on the Sample Library stand G140.

On Monday from 11am we will be doing a two hour presentation where you will learn more about the origins of ‘My Country’, the Aboriginal artists we represent, the process of bringing the collection from painting to translation’s onto fabric, wallpaper, tiles and rugs. You’ll also see some of the original artworks!

Sample Library are holding a prize draw for people who sign up for an account with them during Decorex. Our Lilly Green cushion (from an artwork by Lilly Kemarre Morton) is among the prizes and usually retails for £60. Prizes will be drawn on Friday October 15th.

EC Collective, part of fabric and wallpaper house Elliott Clarke selected our ‘My Country’ fabric and wallpaper collection to join their artisanal design stable. Australian’s looking to source our products in Australia can use our website as a tool for the various fabric bases available and order them through Elliott Clarke. Wallpaper stock is held in Australia and can be sent out the within a day or two of your order.

Alana Pink is from an original artwork by Alana Ngwarraye Holmes who paints her Country in the Central Australian desert. Bay Gallery Home went out to the Communities we represent in the Central Desert to seek permission to translate artists paintings onto fabrics and wallpaper. They receive a royalty from the sale of each of our products benefiting them, the community and maintaining the art centre.

'My Country' wallpapers bring Spring to your home

1. Start with the art… 

We fell in love with this large scale, original, Australian, Aboriginal art canvas sold amongst many other canvases, by one of our suppliers, Bay Gallery Home. We decided to use it as the starting point for a room scheme. What appealed most was the combination of lush botanical detailing (up close the brushwork on these artworks is just breathtaking) with a lively, verdant colour palette. Vibrant limes, jungle greens, sky blue and pretty shades of pink all accented by electric blue convey the colours of the native Australian flora as seen through Aboriginal eyes.

Good art is redemptive; just looking at it lights the lamp from within. When a brand meets that standard, it deserves a good long look.

Founded in 2008, Bay Gallery Home was started by former journalist, Alexandra O’Brien. She emigrated from the UK to Australia when she was four, before returning to England 20 years later. The gallery is nestled in the English Cotswolds in Gloucestershire and represents a range of artists from the communities of Australia’s Northern Territory. Featuring a breadth of works by emerging talent, as well as established artists, prices reflect that range from just over $200 to $5,000 US.

Betty Pula Morton's work shortlisted for $100,000 Hadley's Art Prize

Bay Gallery Home has sold many exceptional Betty’s since we started dealing with her art centre. We also chose to translate one of her paintings into wallpaper and fabric.

Our Aboriginal wallpaper artists at Number 46

Two of our incredibly talented artists who are painfully shy sit outside the art centre where they gather their painting materials before disappearing to paint. On their return they saunter in, often barefoot in clothes, they choose for colour and pattern, clutching exquisite completed works depicting the bush tucker and medicine of their Country. When we visit they are intrigued as to which work we choose to sell or translate into wallpapers. The painting on the art centre wall is inspiring us to upscale the next wallpapers in the collection!

It is a huge privilege to work with these women who empower us through their tenacity, fortitude and innate talent. Funds from each wallpaper goes to them and other artists in the Community providing painting materials, healthcare, transport and schooling in both Aboriginal and Western cultures helping to bridge the gap.

It was a real honour to launch the new wallpaper editions to our ‘My Country’ design with origin Aboriginal interiors collection at Decorex 2018 amongst much admired brands including Timorous Beasties, Rapture & Wright and Thibaut. Bay Gallery Home delights in people coming across it for the first time and there was no shortage of enraptured people on our stand at Decorex 2018.

The artists we represent continue to explore the bountiful botanic aesthetic of the Australian outback sharing with us paintings of exquisite detail. We strive to replicate the painting as close to the original piece as possible thereby retaining the integrity of the artists original purpose when executing it.
